    Plantae-ID Leaf-Shape: peltate

Peltate Definition

A peltate leaf is a shield-shaped leaf where the petiole (leaf stalk) attaches to the center of the underside of the leaf blade, rather than along the margin. This means the leaf blade is attached to the petiole as if the petiole were a stalk supporting a shield. Examples of plants with peltate leaves include nasturtium and Caladium bicolor (angel wings).
