Therapeutic: Analgesic
What is an Analgesic?
These are herbs that will relieve and soothe pain (synonymous with an Anodyne). Other actions that will have this effect are Hypnotics and those herbs which contain opiates.
How do Analgesics Work?
Through various mechanisms but primarily by lessening sensitivity of the brain or the nervous system and causing analgesia.
Note: These herbs have the potential to be toxic in low doses.

- Eschscholzia california (California Poppy)
- Lactuca virosa (Wild lettuce)
- Piscidia erythrina (Jamaican Dogwood)
- Valeriana officinalis (Valerian)
- Atropa belladonna (Deadly Nightshade)
- Hyoscyamus niger (Henbane)
- Datura stramonium (Thorn Apple)
- Gelsemium sempervirens (Gelsemium)
